Harvard University


The Harvard University is one of the most prestigious educational instituions in the world, as well as the instituion of higher educational oldest in the USA . Voted the best university in the world.


This university was founded on 8 September 1636 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, was called simply from nem college. It was then baptized on 13 March 1639 as Harvard College, in honor of John Harvard, one of its main patron. The first time in which is referred to the institution as a university was in 1780.


Harvard is a private university with more money in the world, in the year 2007 the sum was 34.9 billion dollars - this figure does not correspond to an annual budget, but the active ( achieved mainly by donations and financial applications) that the university has, and only a part, between 5 and 10%, is used in direct annual costs.

Currently (2006) has enrollment of 20.042 students, and 6.715 students from graduation, 12.424 students of post-graduate (master's and doctoral) and 975 students in the university extension programs.

The total cost for a student to graduate at Harvard in the academic year 2006-2007 was estimated at 43.655 US dollars, and only 30.275 of registration, more 9.946 of stay and food, and 3.434 US dollars of other charges.

The university is home to the fourth largest collection of books in the world, with over 15.5 milion of securities, being ago only the Library of Congress of the United States, in Washington DC, the British Library in London and the National Library of France in Paris.
